Most technicians didn't burn out on the animals. They burned out on being interchangeable: trained for anesthesia and dentistry, assigned to restraint and mopping. At Agave, technicians run anesthesia, dental cleanings, laboratory work, and more, because that is what the role is for, and because the medicine is better when everyone works to the top of their training.
The building helps: an in-house laboratory, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and a surgical suite with modern monitoring, all from day one, all practiced to AAHA standards.
CVT, or building toward it: both belong
Utah's credential is the CVT, the state certified veterinary technician, and certification is voluntary here: experienced technicians without the credential practice legally under veterinarian supervision, and they're welcome at Agave. If you are working toward the credential, Utah's pathway counts supervised practice hours toward CVT eligibility, and we support the people building them — the owners teach, deliberately, at every level. The structure
- A four-day week, Monday through Friday.
- Owner-veterinarians on the floor, experienced across internal medicine, dentistry, and surgery, and serious about teaching what they know.
- Credential respect: certified and non-certified roles are distinct here, because your training should mean something.
- A pet-care discount for your own animals.
- A founding seat: the protocols and the culture are being written now, by the people who join first.
